Using the Advanced Site Features
Welcome to The Global Human Capital Journal. We hope you find the ideas insightful and useful. We have also strived to make it easy to use by deploying with a state-of-the-art content management system especially for on-line journals and blogs, Serendipity. Here are some pointers on using Serendipity's automated features:
- Categories, subtopics of interest, enable you to quickly find articles that cover a common thread like "Web 2.0, "Beyond Sourcing," "The Enterprise" or "Technology." In the left toolbar at the top, select one by clicking on its name.
- Tags are similar to Categories except they are more numerous and somewhat more specific. Each article is filed under one Category but it can have several Tags. Locate the Tags at the end of each article; clicking on any Tag will produce a list of articles marked with that Tag. The big blue box at the top shows other Tags that are related to the one you clicked, and the relative size of the text shows how many articles that Tag marks. Lastly, Tags are used in blog intermediaries like Technorati to enable readers to skip around among different blogs.
- "Email to a friend" is available at the end of each article; simply pop in the email and a note if you prefer, and Serendipity does the rest!
- Bookmarking articles is available at the end of each article via the colorful icons: Del.icio.us, Digg, Technorati, Yahoomyweb, etc. Just hit the button!
- Using RSS to create a custom list of articles: On the left toolbar at the top, you can tick the boxes of more than one Category and hit the "Go" button to create a custom collection of articles from various Categories.
- You can subscribe to one or more Categories or Tags via RSS: on the left toolbar at the top, click on the "XML" box(es), hit the "Go" button, and (you must have an RSS reader) an RSS list of articles will pop up. When you bookmark that list, it will notify you of new articles as they are published.
- Subscribing to the GHCJ: Our Subscription page explains options for receiving digests of new articles via email.
- Get a summary of all articles by hitting the "Archive/Older" link on the right toolbar at the top. Use it!
- If you wish to print an article, try printing with or without backgrounds or background images (via Print Options) to get the best effect. Note that many articles have pdf versions; just hit the icon to download.
